Malls and Shopping Centers

Nashville offers plenty of malls — from upscale to outlets, so you will find a little bit of everything to satisfy your shopping urge. The sales tax is high (9.25%) so even though the prices can be low, the tax can sometimes kill you (so wait for tax-free weekend!). This is by no means a complete list. We have included some of the more popular shopping plazas and malls here. The smaller boutiques are listed above in the “Boutiques” section.

100 Oaks Shopping Mall

Close to campus featuring stores such as TJ Maxx, Ross, hhgregg, PetSmart, and a Regal Cinemas.

Belle Meade Plaza

West of Vanderbilt on West End, just past St. Thomas Hospital

Cool Springs Galleria

A very nice mall with just about every store and restaurant you could imagine. Your true one-stop shopping mall. Over 100 stores and several major department stores, including Sears, JC Penney, Macy’s, and Dillard’s. It’s a twenty-minute drive from Vandy, but well worth it if you don’t want to deal with prices at Green Hills Mall.

Franklin (City of)

Franklin is a quaint historic community 20 miles south of Vanderbilt on Hillsboro Rd. You can also get there by taking I-65 South and following the signs. It is a scenic drive, great for a sunny afternoon getaway. The shopping around the town square is unique and relaxing. While you’re there, catch a movie at the Franklin Theater, probably the only place you can enjoy food and a beer at your table while you relax and watch your movie on the big screen.

Global Mall

This mall is a little older than Cool Springs and Green Hills. In addition to the actual mall with some 180 stores and 4 major department stores, you will find a wide variety of minor stores in the immediate neighborhood, along with one of only two Olive Gardens in Nashville.

The Mall at Green Hills

An elegant mall which features Nordstrom (opened in fall 2011, very, very nice!), Macy’s, Dillard’s, and specialty shops such as BCBG, Godiva, Coach, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co, The Nature Company, The Body Shop, Aveda, and much, much more. While it has several shopping staples (J. Crew, Banana Republic, The Gap), it also tends to be a bit upscale and pricey. Go here for the convenience, but don’t expect to find a ton of bargains. There is also a large Regal movie theatre at the mall with over 15 theatres and showings of every new release imaginable that offers student discount prices for matinees and weekday evening showtimes.

5 minutes away from campus at Hillsboro Rd.

Outlet Malls

There are numerous outlet malls, one in Lebanon (about 15 miles east of the airport on I-40), one near Murfreesboro (about 30 miles southeast on I-24) and Opry Mills (above). There are also some popular ones in Northern Alabama (Boaz). When visiting the Great Smoky Mountains, you should also check out outlet malls in Pigeon Forge (home of Dolly Parton).

Rivergate Mall

Features Macy’s, Dillard’s, JCPenney, and Sears as well as about 160 other stores. About 20 minutes North of Vanderbilt.
