Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to report on some exciting changes in the Dean’s Office and the BRET Office that recognize the accomplishments of four of our staff leaders who work tirelessly on behalf of research and education in the Basic Sciences of the School of Medicine.

Anthony Tharp is being promoted to Assistant Dean for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Risk Management. As a result of his unparalleled skill in the administration of facilities and infrastructure, Anthony has emerged as the point person for all of us in dealing with these complex issues. He also works regularly with VEHS on research compliance concerns associated with chemical and biological safety, laboratory close-down, etc.

Mary Heath is being promoted to Senior Assistant Dean for Research Administration, Core Facilities, and Strategic Initiatives. Mary’s current role includes leading the staff of Pod 2 and serving as liaison between our Research Core Pod and University central offices. With her promotion, she will assume the additional responsibility of working with the Dean’s Office to identify strategic initiatives and ensure that they are successfully executed.

Ashley Brady is being promoted to Assistant Dean of Biomedical Career Engagement and Strategic Partnerships. Ashley has played a critical role in building our career development programs for graduate students and postdocs. She also has established partnerships with a diverse array of companies to provide opportunities for internships and externships for Vanderbilt trainees. This promotion recognizes her accomplishments and her rising stature among career development colleagues across the country.

Ted Gilbert is being promoted to Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration. Ted is responsible for the financial oversight of the Office of Biomedical Research Education and Training, a task that involves a complex and ongoing series of financial transactions across Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. This promotion reflects the efficacy of Ted’s efforts to keep funds moving smoothly and efficiently in support of student and postdoctoral training.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such talented and dedicated professionals. Their ongoing contributions greatly enhance our ability to achieve our vision of making Vanderbilt the best place to do biomedical research in the country. Please join me in recognizing their accomplishments and congratulating them on their well-earned promotions.

Sincerely,

Larry Marnett
