The BRET Office assists postdoctoral fellows during their biomedical training at Vanderbilt University (VU) and Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).
The BRET Office meets with postdoctoral candidates upon faculty request and with new postdoctoral fellows focusing on the Compact Between Postdoctoral Appointees and their Mentors, the Individual Development Plan and resources available, including resources to aid postdocs in developing writing and presentation skills.
ASPIRE Cafe for Postdoctoral Fellows is a bi-monthly meeting specifically designed for postdoctoral fellows to learn more about the Vanderbilt ASPIRE Program and to explore topics in career development and professionalism.
The BRET Office also supports the Vanderbilt Postdoctoral Association (VPA), which welcomes all Vanderbilt postdoctoral fellows from all schools. The VPA hosts events such as the VPA and Shared Resources Poster Symposium and Research Day, monthly meetings, holiday events, and the National Postdoc Appreciation Week Family Picnic.
The annual survey in The Scientist consistently ranks Vanderbilt as one of the best places for postdocs to work in the United States. Whether you are a prospective postdoctoral fellow considering a move to Nashville or a current postdoctoral fellow seeking assistance, we are here to offer our support.
All new biomedical postdoctoral fellows and trainees should email faith.t.bishop@ vanderbilt.edu to set up a short (about 20 minutes) introductory meeting in the BRET Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, 340 Light Hall, to discuss the resources of our office. The following text outlining the resources of our office will be the basis for our meeting:
This Introductory Meeting should not be confused with HR Employee Orientation, which is mandatory for Postdoctoral Research Fellows, or the Visa orientation in the Student Life Center, mandatory for postdoctoral visa holders.
Attendance at Human Resources Employee Orientation, scheduled by the Postdoc Office for your start date (or as close to your start date as possible) is mandatory and postdoctoral fellows with visas should report to the International Student and Scholar Office when they arrive at Vanderbilt.
