Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY2)

The second year emphasizes continued inpatient experiences on specialty geriatrics and ECT units while adding rotations on our consultation service. Additional training in emergency services completes a two year program designed to build strong clinical skills in hospital based psychiatry. Residents also begin treating patients as outpatients as part of a clinic for patients transitioning from the hospital to the community.

A carefully designed two-year didactic series begins during the PG2 year as well. One afternoon each week is protected for seminars that include an introduction to psychopharmacology, an introduction to psychopathology, and an introduction to psychodynamics and psychotherapy. Seminar leaders reflect the rich research and clinical strengths of our diverse faculty. The seminar series is designed to integrate the basic science and theoretical foundations of psychiatry with clinical practice.
