Post Graduate Year 4 (PGY4)

The fourth year combines the goals of developing leadership abilities with consolidating clinical knowledge and clinical skills. Residents continue outpatient clinics and supervision, spend one month on the consultation service, and return to an inpatient unit as a junior attending.

Specialty training in forensic psychiatry and with individuals who are mentally ill and homeless also takes place in the fourth year. Additionally, fourth year residents complete their training with electives in clinical areas such as the Vanderbilt Student Mental Health Service, or in continuing or developing research projects.

Seminars are designed to complement these clinical experiences, and to prepare the residents for practice and professional growth after graduation.
