My research focuses on the structural and biophysical mechanisms of PMP22 misfolding and mistrafficking. PMP22 is a tetraspan membrane protein critical to the formation and maintenance of peripheral nervous system myelin. Many mutations in PMP22 cause the protein to misfold and mistraffic, resulting in demyelinating neuropathies like Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease. I am interested in using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and macromolecular modeling to investigate small molecule-mediated folding and trafficking rescue of PMP22.
