Leslie Gewin, MD

Assistant Professor, Medicine


Dr. Gewin is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Cell and Developmental Biology.  Dr. Gewin received her medical degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed an internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. In 2005, she came to Vanderbilt University for her nephrology fellowship during which time she became interested in the mechanisms of renal fibrosis and progressive kidney disease. Dr. Gewin currently has a basic science laboratory that focuses on the role of growth factors in renal injury. She has received funding from both the NIH and the Veterans Affairs (VA) to investigate key growth factors such as TGF-beta and Wnt/beta-catenin signaling using mouse injury models. In addition to running a laboratory, Dr. Gewin also supervises a team of physicians on the general medicine wards and renal consult service at the Nashville VA.
