“I believe that there is no such thing as a perfect balance. There are just too many competing interests and demands, yet practicing Emergency Medicine is a constant reminder that life is too short not to take advantage of all the wonderful experiences life has to offer. I do my best to set my priorities first every day – faith, family, friends, residents and patients, and health – and make sure I am spending my time on those things that are most important in my life.”
McCoin and her husband, Patrick, stroll Main Street in Franklin, Tennessee, with their children, Catherine, 10, James, 4, and Richard, 2.
“I picked up tennis just a few years ago — a great opportunity for me to spend some time with my friends and get some exercise.”
McCoin, teaching the Emergency Medicine residents about emergent dermatologic complaints, says one of her greatest interests is resident education.
McCoin recruits residents from across the country, oversees their professional training and serves as a mentor. “I simply love my job.”
“Emergency Medicine is a wonderful specialty. I see patients from all walks of life with all kinds of presenting medical problems. I love making the diagnosis and being with a patient in a time of need as someone who they can trust and count on.”
