If you need a freeze dryer, there is a working unit in CDB on the 2nd floor of MCN. Click here for details. Repairing the VBI instrument will depend on the scope of the problem and demand from labs to have a nearby lyophilizer available. Repairs/pump replacement can be quite costly.
The freeze dryer works at very low temperature (-100° C) and pressure to sublime frozen solvent. Please contact the Equipment and Resource Manager for training on this device before using. There have been many instances where individuals do not properly take care of this device.
