Mouse Tailing and Retailing Policies

Tailing and Ear Punching:

1. Mice will be ear punched and tailed by the VGER staff at weaning and provided to the investigator.
2. The investigator must let VGER staff know which animals are positive for the desired genome mutation within three weeks.
3. VGER will submit a transfer request to move the transgenic animals to the investigator’s room for housing.

Retailing

If for whatever reason there is a failure to correctly genotype some or all the pups after the VGER provides tail samples to the investigator, the following applies:

1. The investigator should contact VGER to confirm which animals need to be retailed and should list a reason as to why there was a failure to genotype.
2. The investigator is responsible for an hourly service fee for retailing.
3. The investigator must let VGER staff know which animals are positive for the desired genome mutation within three weeks.
4. VGER will submit a transfer request to move the transgenic animals to the investigator’s room for housing.
