Annette Hernandez Abad

Hello, my name is Annette and I am majoring Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in University of Havana, Cuba. I am particularly interested in the field of Neuroscience. Back home I have done some research on the processing of acoustic signals in the central auditory pathway. I have always been eager to expand my skills in different techniques and explore neurobiological approaches to disease. Vanderbilt University offers this opportunity to international students.

I decided to apply to this program because it offers a valuable experience for any student interested in continue graduate studies. It is an opportunity to get a taste of the research done in one of the top universities in the field of Biomedical Research in America and a closer view of how would be to continue graduate studies in here since the projects we are involved in, are usually part of the research done by PhD students. During my internship, I have been working at Dr. Winder’s Lab in a project intended to elucidate the role of BNST in the binge behavior observed during different nutritional disorders.

This program is also an opportunity to spend 8 weeks in a wonderful city filled with live music everywhere and kind people. If you love music, Nashville will fill your soul! If you love science, Vanderbilt will fill your brain.
