I am studying BSc at the University of Melbourne, Australia, majoring in pure chemistry.
I applied to VISRA because it offered the opportunity to gain experience doing science outside my country, and and opportunity to experience life living and working outside Australia. VISRA has given me a taste of university life in the USA and a chance to participate in the research culture at a leading university.
Being in the USA and Nashville in particular feels like every single American movie or TV show I have ever seen is playing at the same time and I can't escape. Nashville is an very rounded and exciting city, full of music, food and sweet tea. I recently started cooking for myself and experienced a substantial drop in my blood sugar levels.
My project at Vanderbilt involves working with the group to synthesise fragments of apoptolidin C, an apoptosis-inducing natural product which is a promising subject of research for several groups at Vanderbilt.
I plan to complete masters in Australia followed by completing a PhD program elsewhere, potentially in the USA.
