Health Scientist Administrators (Program Officers) – Allergy, Asthma, and Airway Biology Branch
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), one of the largest institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)is seeking an exceptional and motivated leader to serve as a program officer within the Allergy, Asthma, and Airway Biology Branch (AAABB) in the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation (DAIT). DAIT supports basic and clinical research to improve our understanding of fundamental immunology and the causes of diseases and to ultimately develop better diagnostic, treatment, and prevention strategies.
AAABB conceives and conducts research programs in asthma and allergic diseases, allergic mechanisms, inflammation, and relevant hypersensitivity phenomena through research grants, program project grants, contracts, and cooperative agreement awards. The program officer will participate in clinical and basic research aimed at determining immune and barrier abnormalities in atopic dermatitis, the role of skin infections and the skin microbiome, immunologic approaches to prevention and treatment, and the relationship between atopic dermatitis, food allergy, and other atopic diseases.
Qualifications
Preferred
- Expertise in allergic diseases and asthma, including allergic mechanisms and Type 2 inflammation.
- Research experience in innate immunity, skin/epithelial barrier research, and microbiome or other omics research as they pertain to allergic diseases and asthma.
