EDI Services

The Office of Education Design and Informatics (EDI) offers the following services to support faculty, staff, and students to fully integrate the technologies of the School of Medicine curriculum. Our team of technical support and instructional design professionals offers a variety of services to faculty, staff, and students. If you need immediate help, please submit a Help Ticket. We are regularly updating those documents, so let us know if you would like a set of instructions added to the site. To request services or support not found on our Help Site, please submit a ticket to our team.

Our team provides support for a number of software applications at the School of Medicine. We are available to troubleshoot issues, provide instructional documentation for getting started, suggest best practices for your workflows, and conduct various levels of training for individuals or groups. The table below lists the technologies we most commonly support. If our help site does not answer your questions or you would like support for a technology not listed here, please submit a ticket to our team.

VSTAR Applications: The VSTAR suite of applications is the primary source of course content and student progress data. Learn more about the various VSTAR applications.

Echo360: Echo360 is used to store and record videos/lectures. Lecture videos can be organized by course and made available to students in that course, and video files can be uploaded to this site and given an access link or embed code. To gain access to Echo360, please request an account from our team.

Poll Everywhere: Poll Everywhere provides instructors the ability to set up a list of poll questions to present during a lecture or event. Students are able to answer the questions online or by mobile phone, and instructors can choose to display the results during the presentation. To gain access to Poll Everywhere, please request an account from our team.

Qualtrics: Qualtrics is a survey tool used by the school of medicine.  Qualtrics offers many options for designing and distributing surveys, and it includes a variety of reporting abilities for analyzing and exporting the data you receive. To gain access to Qualtrics, please request an account from our team.

Zoom: Zoom is the main videoconferencing tool used by the school of medicine. Zoom allows you to host or attend virtual meetings, with options to share your webcam or screen, chat with other participants, join breakout rooms, and more. Zoom accounts have been given to all University students, faculty, and staff. Learn more about this tool in the our Help Site’s Zoom category.

Our team is able to produce course materials and provide instructional design support to faculty and course coordinators. We can help create new materials for your course, redesign existing materials, and create workflows or checklists that align administrative course responsibilities with curriculum timelines. .

Our team provides technical support for on-campus assessments to ensure that students are able to promptly complete their computer-based requirements.

  1. NBME Technical support – Shelf Exams, Customized Assessments, and Advanced Clinical Exams
  2. VC3 Assessment (in CELA)
  3. UME weekly quizzes and end-of-block exams

We assist in getting students trained and set up in eStar.  We provide support where required for the integration of eStar notes into VSTAR PEN, making sure user accounts are set up properly in each system, and if necessary directing students, faculty, and staff to additional support.  We provide similar assistance to students for access to the Virtual Clinical Workstations and provide documentation on how to set up the VMWARE access to available resources.
