Because radiation is known to alter cell signaling and secreted factors, we are interested in studying how radiation damage of normal and tumor cells and tissues alters extracellular vesicle (EV) secretion, thereby influencing immune cell attraction to damaged sites, extracellular matrix remodeling, and potentially tumor cell recruitment. We will determine the differential EV secretory response in both normal tissue and the tumor microenvironment in order to understand how radiation may promote pre-metastatic niche formation.
