Letter from Ann Price, MD

Dear Vanderbilt Medical Alumni:

It’s clear that 2019 was a busy year for the Vanderbilt Medical Alumni Association (VMAA). We made a concerted effort to increase our presence and support for our VMAA specialty societies at numerous national conferences including ACOG, ACC, ACS, AANS, RSNA, ASPS, ENDO, and ID-week among others. In addition, we held a regional event in conjunction with the AAMC conference in Austin and regional dinners in San Francisco, Palo Alto, California, Baltimore, Columbia, South Carolina, and Cincinnati. We express our deep appreciation to our regional medical alumni hosts: James Mark, MD, (Palo Alto); Robert Gotcher, MD, (San Francisco); Jim Chow, MD, (Columbia, South Carolina); and Mariana Belvedere, PhD, and Samer Hasan, MD, PhD (Cincinnati). We greatly enjoy going “on the road” to visit our medical alums across the country. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you are interested in learning more about hosting a regional event for your area.

In addition, each year the VMAA supports a number of student and house staff-oriented events. On the student side of our membership, the VMAA served as a sponsor for our student-led Shade Tree Trot (5k), VMS III’s Parent’s Weekend, VMS I’s White Coat Donors celebration, the VMS II’s “You’re Halfway There Party,” the annual AOA inductions, and we co-hosted with the Office for Health Sciences Education our 17th annual VMAA Almost Alumni & Faculty appreciation luncheon for the VUSM graduating class. Many thanks to all of our medical alumni who served as hosts and mentors for the Class of 2019. If you are not yet a volunteer for one of these programs and would like to learn more, see https://medschool.vanderbilt.edu/alumni. On the VUMC side of our membership, we welcomed our incoming house staff at the VUMC house staff orientation picnic, sponsored house staff ‘nights out’ with the Nashville Sounds and with Vanderbilt men’s basketball and provided refreshments and luncheons for a number of house staff initiatives.

VUSM Reunion 2020 is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5, to Saturday, Nov. 7, in conjunction with Vanderbilt University’s Reunion/Homecoming weekend. Please see: https://reunion.vanderbilt.edu/medicine/ for updates and activities. All medical alumni are invited to join us for Reunion 2020. The following VUSM classes will be celebrating at special anniversary class parties on Friday evening, Nov. 6:
