Richard Clarke Agnew, MD’75, HO’75,’78, died June 2, 2023. He was 75. Dr. Agnew was preceded in death by his wife, Stephanie, and is survived by his children Jonathan, Jason and Spenser, and three grandchildren.
Oren Wyatt Babb, MD’67, HO’71, died Nov. 18, 2023. Dr. Babb is survived by his wife, Pat; sons Robert and Russell; stepchildren Chris, Meg and Jeffrey; and 10 grandchildren.
David Hall Bristow, MD, HO’71, died June 29, 2023. He was 78. Dr. Bristow is survived by his children Talia, Isabel, Gabriel and Christopher.
Judith Burroughs, MD’70, died Aug. 24, 2023. She was 79. Dr. Burroughs is survived by her sisters Anita and Shirley; brother Edward; and many nieces and nephews.
Frank Edward Carroll Jr., MD, Emeritus FAC and former head of the Chest/Thoracic Radiology section, died July 7, 2023. He was 81. Dr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Sassy; sons Frank and Mark; and two grandchildren.
Jack Curtis, MD, HO’72, died Jan. 7. He was 79. Dr. Curtis is survived by a large family and many friends.
Gerald Daniel, MD, HO’72, died Dec. 5, 2023. He was 84. Dr. Daniel is survived by his wife, Joyce; children David, Daniel, Deborah, Kasey and Baron; and 13 grandchildren.
Frank Eggers, MD’71, died May 11, 2023. He was 78. Dr. Eggers is survived by his wife, Sandy; children Leann and Hamilton; and five grandchildren.
Frederick Emerson Jr., MD’70, died June 30, 2023. He was 87. Dr. Emerson is survived by his wife, Nancy; their children Molly, Mark and Robert; and six grandchildren.
Charles Faulkner, MD, HO’70,’71, died July 20, 2023. He was 80. Dr. Faulkner is survived by his wife, Margaret; children Melissa, Brian and Kathryn; and six grandchildren.
Frederick (Rick) Finke, MD, HO’73, died April 26, 2023. He was 78. Dr. Finke is survived by his wife, Janet, and son, Doug.
Susan Gay Glover, MD’86, died Oct. 21, 2023. Dr. Glover is survived by her husband, Eugene Britton; their son, Duncan; and extended family.
Stanley Graber, MD’64, HO’67, BA’60, died Dec. 12, 2023. He was 85. Dr. Graber is survived by his wife, Sara; sons Samuel and Louis; and two grandchildren.
Byron Green Jr., BA’51, MD’54, HO’55, died June 4, 2023. He was 93. Dr. Green is survived by his children John, Amy and James; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Robert Leo Haley Jr., BA’57, MD’60, HO’64, died Apr. 9, 2023. He was 87. Dr. Haley is survived by his wife, Joy Bell, and sons Paul, John and Robert.
David Parks Hall, MD, HO’57, died May 10, 2023. He was 98. Dr. Hall is survived by his nieces Betts, Berry and Irene; nephew Houston; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Susan Ann Halter, MD, FAC, died Dec. 3, 2023. Dr. Halter is survived by her brother, Jon; stepdaughters Gail and Phyllis; and nieces and nephews.
Rex Harris, MD, HO’65, died Jan. 13. He was 84. Dr. Harris is survived by his wife, Sara; children Suzy and Richard; and one grandchild.
John Hoover Hash, PhD, who was associate dean for Biomedical Sciences and director of Sponsored Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, died June 20, 2023. He was 94. Dr. Hash is survived by three children, Debra, Susan and Richard; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Paul J. Huchton, MD’58, HO’59, died May 29, 2023. He was 89. Dr. Huchton is survived by his wife, Sheila; children Hadley, David, Amy and Karen; and eight grandchildren.
A. Garland Jonas, MD’56, died May 15, 2023. He was 96. Dr. Jonas was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, and is survived by his children Melissa, Alfred and Henry; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Dave Klock, MD’89, died Oct. 6, 2023. He was 60. Dr. Klock is survived by his mother, Kathy; sister Linda; and two brothers Steven and Kevin.
Robert Lambright, MD’50, HO’50, died June 30, 2023. He was 96. Dr. Lambright is survived by his children Patrick, Christian, Linda and Keith; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Rodney Alan Lorenz, MD’71, HO’71, FE’79, died July 6, 2023. He was 77. Dr. Lorenz is survived by his wife, Karin; children Matthew, Kate and Rebekah; six grandchildren and extended family.
Aurthur Lyons, MD’ 55, died Nov. 7, 2023. He was 92. Dr. Lyons is survived by children Michael and Alan, and three grandchildren.
Dorcas Mansell, MD’82, died Oct. 8, 2023. She was 66. Dr. Mansell is survived by her sisters Helen and Pam; nieces and nephews; and extended family.
John McMahan Sr., MD’64, HO’68, BA’61, died Sept 20, 2023. He was 84. Dr. McMahan is survived by his wife, Sharon; son John; and one grandchild.
Warren McPherson, MD, HO’66, FE’68, died Jan. 1. He was 84. Dr. McPherson is survived by his children Kathryn, Amanda, Charley and Shane, and nine grandchildren.
John H. Newman, MD, professor of Medicine, emeritus, former Elsa S. Hanigan Professor of Pulmonary Medicine, and an acclaimed physician-scientist in VUMC’s Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine who made numerous contributions to the knowledge of pulmonary vascular disease, died Feb. 20. He was 78. Dr. Newman is survived by his wife, Rebecca; children Katherine and Alexander; and three grandchildren.
Harry G. Preuss III, MD, HO’59, died May 13, 2023. He was 88. Dr. Preuss is survived by his wife, Veronica; children Mary Beth, Jeffrey, Christopher and Michael; and seven grandchildren.
Berkley Rish, MD, HO’63, died Dec. 27, 2023. He was 89. Dr. Rish is survived by his wife, Mary; son Monty; two stepsons Clark and Wes; and six grandchildren.
L. Jackson Roberts II, MD, FE’75, Emeritus FAC, an internationally known clinical pharmacologist at VUSM who helped define the role of lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress in human disease, died May 31, 2023. He was 79. Dr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Vicky; children Jacob and Erik; and seven grandchildren.
David Robertson, MD’73, FE’77, Emeritus FAC, a pioneer in the clinical research of blood pressure disorders at VUMC, died Jan. 12. He was 76. Dr. Robertson is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Robertson, MD, and their daughter, Rose Marie Robertson Pink.
Kreig D. Roof, PhD, Post-doc FE’91, died May 3, 2023. He was 63. Dr. Roof is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and children Bennett and Caroline.
Robert Schweitzer, MD’68, died Sept. 15, 2023. He was 80. Dr. Schweitzer is survived by his wife, Norma; children Suzanne, Robby, Sarah, Amy and Nancy; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ghodrat A Siami, MD, PhD, FAC, emeritus professor of Medicine and Nephrology, died Jan. 24. He was 93. Dr. Siami is survived by his wife, Joan, and children Farideh, Farkhondeh, Paul, Thomas and Sandra.
James Snell Jr., MD’58, HO’58, FE’60,’63, the founder and first director of VUMC’s medical intensive care unit, died July 3, 2023. He was 89. Dr. Snell is survived by his wife, Catherine; daughters Elizabeth and Margaret; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Harvey Spark, MD, BA’59, HO’65, died June 4, 2023. He was 85. Dr. Spark is survived by his wife, Jo; children Shari, Jeffrey, Ilene, Lauren, Meg, Matthew and Benjamin; and 14 grandchildren.
Walter Stone, MD’57, died June 21, 2023. He was 91. Dr. Stone is survived by his wife, Esther, children Kay, Allen, David and Andy; stepdaughters Rhona and Amy; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
George Stricklin, MD, PhD, Emeritus FAC, died Feb. 28. He was 74. Dr. Stricklin, a distinguished scientist, clinician and faculty leader, joined VUMC in 1988, becoming chief of Dermatology at Nashville VA Medical Center and later chief of the VUMC Division of Dermatology in 2002. He retired from VUMC in 2015. Dr. Stricklin is survived by his wife, Deborah; sons James and George; and two grandchildren.
Hugh Sutherland, BA’54, MD’57, died July 22, 2023. He was 90. Dr. Sutherland is survived by his wife, Judy; children Elizabeth, Margaret, Hugh, Hunter and Brent; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
William Tinkler, MD’51, died Sept. 22, 2023. He was 98. Dr. Tinkler was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, and son Stuart. He is survived by his children Ellen, William, Paul, David and Robert; and 11 grandchildren.
Sam Traughber, MD, HO’65, died April 13, 2023. He was 87. Dr. Traughber is survived by his wife, Alice; and children Samantha and James; and two grandchildren.
Nicholas Trotta, MD’64, died Dec. 19, 2023. Dr. Trotta is survived by his children Nicole, Ross and Nicholas; and three grandchildren.
Stuart Weinberg, MD, an innovator and advocate in the field of pediatric informatics, died July 18, 2023. He was 63. Dr. Weinberg is survived by his mother, Gay; wife, Anne; and children Nathan and Sarah.
Frederick Whittier Jr., MD, FE’68, died Nov. 5, 2023. He was 84. Dr. Whittier is survived by his wife, Alana Jean (AJ); children George, William, Ann, Michelle and Heather; and 11 grandchildren.
Roy Wright, MD’63, died Dec. 22, 2023. He was 89. Dr. Wright is survived by children Alice, Sandra, Roy and Carolyn; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
