Research Mentor: Xingyi Guo, Ph.D.

Thesis Topic: Genetic Epidemiology of Colorectal Cancer

Biography
I received my medical degree (M.D.) from Sun Yat-Sen University. Before joining Vanderbilt University, I served as a neurosurgeon in China. My previous research mainly focuses on exploring the roles of Long non-coding RNAs and microRNAs in glioma and identifying potential biomarkers to evaluate glioma prognosis. I am very interested in cancer epidemiology and genetic epidemiology and decided to pursue a Ph.D. degree in genetic epidemiology.

Why Vanderbilt?
I chose Vanderbilt University to further my education because of its well-designed curriculum and innovative approaches to analyzing genetic data. Most importantly, during my interview, I was deeply impressed by the kindness of Dr. Guo and his enthusiasm for research. In addition, I believe the Division of Epidemiology at Vanderbilt University is an ideal platform to sharpen my analytic skills for genetic cancer data and achieve my academic goals.
