Emma Nolan, MS, G2
Research Mentor: Timothy Hohman, Ph.D., M.A.
Thesis Topic: Genetic epidemiology with a focus on cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease risk.
Biography: My path towards genetic epidemiology began when I obtained my BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Bellarmine University. I then obtained a MS in Epidemiology from the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). During my time at UNTHSC, I primarily focused on gene-environment interactions in relation to cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease development. I plan to continue researching Alzheimer’s disease through computational neurogenomic methods while focusing on modifiable risk factors.
Why Vanderbilt? I chose to continue my studies at Vanderbilt University due to the outstanding research being conducted at the Vanderbilt Memory & Alzheimer’s Center. I look forward to providing epidemiological insight while collaborating with lab members from diverse specialties. Also, the program directors/faculty members provide continual support in areas of coursework, research, and meeting professional goals.
