Linshuoshuo (Lesley) Lyu, MPH, G1
Mentor: Xingyi Guo, Ph.D.
Research interests: Genetic epidemiology and biomedical informatics
Biography
Before joining Vanderbilt, I earned my Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Environmental Health Sciences from the Yale University. Prior to that, I received my bachelor’s degree in Preventive Medicine from Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. Motivated by a strong interest in genetics and the research conducted in Dr. Guo’s lab, as well as the abundant genetic and electronic health record (EHR) data resources available at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), I moved to Nashville and began working as a full-time research assistant in the Guo Lab after graduating from Yale. My research primarily focuses on genetic epidemiology and multi-omics analysis, including genome-wide association studies (GWASs), proteome-wide association studies (PWASs), quantitative trait loci mapping, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics analysis, to uncover risk variants and genes associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Through integrating the multi-omics data and advanced bioinformatics tools, I hope to uncover the genetic architecture and metabolic pathways underlying IBD, contributing to the identification and development of novel therapeutic targets.
Why Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt School of Medicine and VUMC are home to cutting-edge research in genetic epidemiology with abundant data recourse, such as BioVU and Shanghai Men’s and Women’s Health Study. I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Xingyi Guo, and I believe continuing to work at his lab would be the ideal path to pursue my research interest in multi-omics, fulfill my academic aspirations, and advance my career development. Also, I believe the program’s support on career development and its training in critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership will prepare me for a successful career as a leading researcher in academia.
