The new grant (1R01DK115620-01), titled DESIGNING SELECTIVE TALK-1 INHIBITORS TO REDUCE BETA-CELL DYSFUNCTION IN DIABETES, will test the central hypothesis that the inhibition of TALK-1 potassium channels in pancreatic beta cells normalizes Ca²⁺ homeostasis under diabetic conditions, preventing beta-cell dysfunction and maintaining euglycemia.
