Research Description

Our research program focuses on fundamental questions regarding cellular behavior and the effect of transcriptional dynamics during lung organogenesis, lung injury, and lung regeneration, with an emphasis on understanding bronchopulmonary dysplasia, a leading complication in survivors of preterm birth. We combine single-cell multi-omics with 4-dimensional live-imaging approaches in innovative ex vivo and in vivo models – which we have developed and disseminated to the community – to understand how the cells of the developing lung assemble into an organ, and how this carefully coordinated program of organogenesis is disrupted (and left with long-term pulmonary deficits) in the setting of preterm birth.
