MSTPastimes: Hannah Giannini (G2) and Yoga

Submitted by: Hannah Giannini, G2

Four yoga students smileI started doing yoga the summer before freshman year of college because I was bored after I got home in the afternoons after working my summer job. Within a month, I fell in love with it. My yoga made me feel independent because I was doing it by myself. I decided that I wanted to start teaching yoga less than a year later. So, while I was taking college courses, I was also doing a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training. I began teaching sophomore year, took a break while I was in medical school, and I’d restarted whenever I got into the G phase.

My favorite part about yoga is that your practice changes each time you get on the mat, and it is okay whether you challenge yourself or just decide to take it easy. As an instructor, I love seeing my students progress whether that’s being able to do new poses or hold poses for longer.

During M1 and M2, I was practicing yoga regularly, and I started teaching again when I entered graduate school.
