Faculty Senate elects leadership for 2016-17

The Faculty Senate, the representative and deliberative body of the Vanderbilt faculties, has elected its leadership for 2016-17.
The Executive Committee oversees the work of the senate and meets regularly with Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Susan R. Wente and President and CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Dean of the School of Medicine Jeff Balser.
The Executive Committee members are as follows:
Charlene Dewey, chair, associate professor of medicine;
Brian Heuser, vice chair, assistant professor of the practice of international education policy at Peabody College;
Geoffrey Fleming, chair-elect, associate professor of medicine;
Leslie Hopkins, vice chair-elect, assistant professor of nursing;
Richard Willis, immediate past chair, Anne Marie and Thomas B. Walker, Jr. Professor of Accounting; and
Ann Price, immediate past vice chair, associate dean for alumni affairs, VUSM.
In addition, the Faculty Senate’s standing committees guide the senate’s work. Review the committees’ charges and responsibilities.
The standing committee chairs are as follows:
Gayle Shay, Academic Policies and Services. Shay is associate professor of voice at Blair School of Music.
Scott Pearson, Faculty Life. Pearson is associate professor of surgery in the School of Medicine.
Myrna Wooders, Faculty Manual. Wooders is professor of economics in the College of Arts and Science.
Tom Christenbery, Christenbery is associate professor of nursing in the School of Nursing.
Peter Martin, Senate Affairs. Martin is professor of psychiatry in the School of Medicine.
Michael Miga, Strategic Planning and Academic Freedom. Miga is professor of biomedical engineering in the School of Engineering.
David Cliffel, Student Life. Cliffel is professor of chemistry in the College of Arts and Science.
