Congrats, Dr. Stark!

Who: Amy Stark, PhD

Department: Pharmacology

PI Mentor: John Penn

Research: Studying prostanoids, the downstream molecules inhibited by NSAIDs like ibuprofen, and their receptors as highly specific targets to manage inflammation that occurs in the early stages of diabetic retinopathy

Vanderbilt Impact:

“The ASPIRE Program, especially Dr. Ashley Brady, helped support me so much along the way as I considered and now am preparing for a future career as a PI in academic research.

“Dr. Ginger Milne, along with her team at the Eicosanoid Core Laboratory, helped perform experiments at the foundation of my dissertation work, then she continued to be a mentor, supporter, and role model to me throughout my training.”

Post-PhD Plans: Dr. Stark will begin a postdoc in Dr. Katherine Gallagher’s lab at the University of Michigan to study epigenetic and immunologic regulation of diabetic wounds and tissue repair.
