Microvilli are highly organized and packed actin-based protrusions of intestinal epithelial cells that are responsible for nutrient absorption and host defense against pathogenic microorganisms. Myosin-7b is an actin-based motor that transports cargoes to the tips of microvilli for establishing and maintaining its organization. My project aims to understand how myosin-7b activity is regulated by cargoes to 'walk' processively along actin filaments using in vivo and in vitro model systems.
