Metaplasia in the stomach is considered a major risk factor for developing intestinal-type gastric cancer. My focus is understanding the initiation and progression of metaplasia. A better understanding of the origin of pre-cancerous metaplasia can lead to improved approaches for early detection and treatment of gastric cancer.
