My main project investigates the effect of circadian gene regulation on the production of useful biomolecules, such as lactate, in the photosynthetic bacterium Synechocystis. In collaboration with Johnson lab, we have proceeded by rationally generating circadian mutants and screening them for unusual lactate production phenotypes. We will then use isotopically nonstationary MFA (INST-MFA), the Young Lab’s signature technique, to elucidate the phenotypes’ metabolic origins
