Topoisomerase II is essential in removing knots, tangles, and tension from DNA by inducing double-stranded breaks. Topoisomerase II poisons increase the amount of DNA cleavage caused by Topoisomerase II, causing the genome to fragment. I am currently studying various compounds and natural products for their potential as topoisomerase poisons and anticancer drugs.
