Acute Lung Injury (ALI) is a syndrome of inflammation and increased permeability that can lead to respiratory failure and death. For my graduate studies, my goal is to elucidate the mechanism of tissue factor in ALI. Tissue factor (TF) is a transmembrane receptor that is involved in common coagulation pathways and has been shown to bind β1-integrin to contribute to epithelial permeability. By understanding the mechanisms that contribute to ALI, we can find new therapeutic targets.
