Mitochondrial dysfunction results in the inability to produce enough energy to meet cellular demand. Defects in mitochondrial function have profound effects on aging and have been associated with a growing list of diseases including a variety of metabolic and neurological disorders, cardiovascular disease and cancers. Using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system, I am combining my interests of RNA biology and gene regulation to determine molecular mechanisms underpinning mitochondrial dysfunction.
