I’ll be working with Helicobacter pylori, a gram negative stomach bacterium that infects about 50% of the global population. Infections are usually asymptomatic, but in rare cases adverse effects can arise, such as stomach ulcers or gastric cancer. I’m really interested in the host-pathogen interactions that make the wide variety of disease outcomes possible.
