Pancreatic islet hormone secretion is perturbed in diabetic patients. Potassium channels are critical for islet activity. TALK-2 is a two-pore-domain potassium channel that is not found in rodents, making it difficult to study. My project will focus on studying TALK-2 channels in human beta and alpha cells and its role on calcium handling and secretion.
