As a member of the Bowman lab, I use mouse models to study gene-environment interactions in neurodegenerative disorders. I am particularly interested in understanding manganese (Mn) biology and its contribution to the pathophysiology of Huntington's Disease (HD). There is evidence suggesting individuals with HD have reduced levels of Mn in certain regions of the brain, especially the striatum, the brain region most impacted in HD. I am currently carrying out a study investigating the effects of chronic Mn supplementation on behavioral and molecular HD phenotypes.
