My research project seeks to understand how the neural circuits involved in the regulation of anxiety-like behaviors in mice change upon experience. Moreover, the interplay with brain areas known for governing cognitive functions; particularly, those that are impaired in patients with mood- or stress-related disorders. At the moment, we aim to answer these broad questions by the use of contextual fear and extinction paradigms, which combined with in-vivo lens microscopy, enable us to profile cell populations responsive for the conduct of the animal in a time-specific manner. Pharmacological manipulations of the endocannabinoid system are also to be examined, in the look-out for alleviating phenotypes that might be of clinical interest.
