The overexpression or dysregulation of the master transcriptional regulator MYC occurs in 70% of all cancers, leading to the expression of genes involved in proliferation, metabolism, cell growth, and genome integrity. However, MYC is regarded as directly undruggable. My research project is interested in studying one of MYC’s cofactors for regulating transcription, WDR5. I am interested in identifying the regulatory pathways and biological roles of WDR5.
