Friday Five – Five Places to Eat near VUSM
The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine loves to eat. Luckily, plenty of restaurants line nearby 21st Avenue in the Hillsboro Village area just east of campus. Here are five local favorites:
- San Antonio Taco Company – With nearly 40 years of experience bringing Tex Mex food to Nashville, San Antonio Taco Company (known colloquially as SATCO) features a large deck to hang out on 21st Avenue at the original location. With 10 kinds of tacos at affordable prices, SATCO remains a favorite among Vanderbilt students, faculty, and staff.
- Kay Bob’s Grill & Ale – Kay Bob’s Grill & Ale, which opened in 2011, brings a blend of Persian and Southern influences to the Hillsboro Village food scene. Grab a flatbread wrap or Kubideh platter in the heart of the food row.
- The Grilled Cheeserie – Cozy up with some comfort food at The Grilled Cheeserie, where specialty melts, tater tots, and old fashioned tomato soup take a gourmet twist. The restaurant has been featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” hosted by Guy Fieri.
- Pancake Pantry – Founded in 1961, the Pancake Pantry is somewhat of a Nashville Tradition. Open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, chow down on breakfast favorites like old fashioned buttermilk pancakes or lunch sandwiches like Baldwin’s Dipper (named for founder Robert Baldwin).
- Pizza Perfect – Who doesn’t love a good pizza? Previously voted #1 Pizza in Nashville by the Nashville Scene, Pizza Perfect offers handmade pies baked to-order from scratch. The joint opened in 1983 and now stands as a Hillsboro Village favorite.
