Meet Our Student Planning Team

Year: VMS1
Hometown: Hopkinsville, KY
Undergrad: University of Kentucky
Hey guys! I’m Rohan, and I am a first-year medical student here at Vandy. I grew up in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, which is only around an hour away from Nashville, and went to the University of Kentucky for undergrad (Class of 2025)! Here, I majored in biochemistry and went straight through to medical school. When I am not playing ping pong in the student lounge or doing Anki like a madman, I like to review restaurants in Nashville on Beli, go to Titans games, and take pictures of the night sky with my telescope! Even halfway through my first year, I can confidently say I made the right decision in choosing VUSM. During this time, I have gotten involved with Shade Tree Clinic, the Vanderbilt Educational Garden Initiative (VEGI), and have also spent lots of time getting to know prospective students through admissions Zoom calls and social hours! I could not have asked for a better medical school experience. Congratulations to all of you guys on your acceptance, and I can’t wait to meet you all during SLW!

Year: VMS1
Hometown: Boston, MA
Undergrad: Dartmouth College
Hi everyone! My name is Chloe Park, and I am a first-year medical student here at VUSM. I grew up outside of Boston and went to Dartmouth for undergrad where I majored in Spanish and Biology. I spent a gap year in Boston working as a clinical research coordinator and got to visit my friends all around the world before moving to Nashville. At VUSM, I am a Spanish interpreter and diabetic retinopathy screener at Shade Tree Clinic and serve as my class’s representative for the Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) through AAMC — I got to go to San Antonio, TX for the first time earlier this year for a conference through this position! Nashville has it all; a vibrant urban downtown, quiet suburban life, and access to beautiful nature. Of course, being a Vandy student opens up even more doors — I carved pumpkins for the College Cup, watched Vandy’s football team win at my first SEC game, and frequented my classmate’s Bhangra classes at the recreational center on Monday nights. I have loved going to all the museums, trying new restaurants, going on hikes, getting to know my faculty directors and spending time with my brilliant classmates. Congratulations on getting into medical school and all the incredible hard work you’ve put in to get here! Feel free to reach out to talk about any questions or anything that’s on your mind!

Year: VMS1
Hometown: Long Island, NY
Undergrad: Boston College
Hey guys! My name is Kate Serpe, and I am first year student at VUSM! I am originally from Long Island, New York, and I majored in Human-Centered Engineering at Boston College. Even though I have only been at VUSM for six months, I have found a family here at Vandy, and I am so happy to be here. At VUSM, I am involved in volunteering at Shade Tree, a free clinic dedicated to providing service for the Nashville community. When I am not volunteering or studying with friends at EBL, you can find me running around Centennial Park, listening to live country music, and line dancing on Broadway. Congratulations on being accepted into VUSM, and welcome to the family! Please reach out with any questions, and anchor down!

Year: VMS2
Hometown: Logan, UT
Undergrad: University of Utah
Hey everyone, congrats on getting into medical school!! My name is Gauri Garg, and I am a second year student here at Vanderbilt. I grew up in Logan, UT, and went to the University of Utah for my undergrad (class of 2023) and studied Health, Society and Policy. I took a gap year interning with the Utah legislature, traveling, and skiing! I have LOVED my time at Vanderbilt so far and know I made the right decision in coming here. Through the medical school, I am involved in the Medical Innovators Development Program (MIDP), Organization of Student Representatives (OSR), Students for a National Health Program (SNaHP), and Wilderness Medicine. There’s always so much going on in medical school and Nashville from college cup (go Batson!!), run club, awesome restaurants and bars, and a killer music scene. The community, from the students to administration, is truly unparalleled here and you won’t regret your decision. Hope to see you all here in July!!

Year: VMS2
Hometown: Cerritos, CA
Undergrad: University of California, Berkeley
Hi everyone! My name is Sujanya Narayanan, and I am currently a second year medical student at VUSM. I’m from the LA area, and I went to UC Berkeley, where I majored in Molecular & Cell Biology and minored in Music. After graduation, I went straight through to medical school here at Vanderbilt! At VUSM, I have been involved in the Society for the History of Medicine and Surgery, Shade Tree Clinic, and SMC Mentorship. Outside of school, I love going to the gym, trying new cafes and restaurants, exploring the live music scene, or reading a good book. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about VUSM, what it’s like to move across the country, or anything else that you can think of. Year: VMS2
Hometown: Las Vegas, NV
Undergrad: University of Richmond
Hey everyone! My name is Alex, and I’m a second year born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. I studied biochemistry and French at the University of Richmond (GO SPIDERS) and went straight through. During undergrad, I spent some time abroad doing research in Switzerland and worked on farm. Here at VUSM, I’m involved in Radial Grooves (VUMC’s premier a cappella group), Health Literacy (getting out to local high schools to teach various topics), and VUSM Run Club. I am a proud Robinson Raven and CANNOT imagine myself being anything else in any other universe!! Global Surgery Student Alliance and Society for the History of Medicine and Surgery are two awesome orgs I enjoy learning from too. Outside of school, I thoroughly enjoy rock climbing, camping, eating, advancing my golf swing, and exploring all sorts of music venues. Nashville is such an amazing city with something for everybody from downtown metropolitan to rural country vibes. We have tons great restaurants, national and state parks within reach, and plenty of tourist attractions for when your friends and family visit; there’s something new to do all the time! Feel free to reach out and looking forward meeting you all!
