Welcome to Vanderbilt Medical Physics
If you’re looking for first-rate training for a clinical and leadership career in medical physics, you’ve come to the right place.
At Vanderbilt, we offer two pathways for an advanced degree in medical physics:
- the Master of Science in Medical Physics (MSMP)
Available for both diagnostic imaging physics and radiation therapy physics tracks. - the Doctorate in Medical Physics (DMP)
Available for the diagnostic imaging physics track.
When you join us at Vanderbilt, you’re joining a close-knit community of students and faculty dedicated to personalized clinical training, top-of-the-line medical care.
Here’s what sets our medical physics program apart:
Dive into hands-on clinical experience from Day 1.
Our clinic-centered curriculum for both radiation therapy and diagnostic imaging tracks lets you jump right into faculty observation, clinical practicum, and in-clinic learning at our state-of-the-art academic medical center.
Join a close-knit cohort.
With a handful of MSMP and DMP candidates at any given time, your coursework and clinical rotations happen in an environment with lots of opportunities for one-on-one mentoring. Your classes typically include 3-6 students, and our expert faculty regard mentorship and teaching as the core part of their work each day.
Prepare for a career of innovation and leadership.
Our graduates are superbly trained and confident in their fields— but they’re also ready to be lifelong learners. You’ll see that mindset in practice every day across Vanderbilt; it’s what keeps us on the cutting edge of our field.
Whether you’re mentoring younger students, pushing forward a novel research endeavor, or asking unusual questions in clinic, you’re training to become a medical physicist who moves the field forward.
Train in a world-class medical center.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center hosts some of the newest and most cutting-edge imaging and radiation therapy equipment you’ll find anywhere in the country. The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, dedicated to an integrated and patient-focused approach. Hands-on practicum and training with these types of systems prepare you for a smooth transition to residency or full-time work in the field. Plus, given our diverse patient population and various satellite medical centers, you’ll always have new clinical experiences to learn from.
Network with a lifelong community of colleagues.
Vanderbilt Medical Physics consistently sends excellent medical physicists and leaders out into the world. But going out doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye. The connections with faculty, technologists, and other students, will last long after you’ve graduated onto the next phase of your medical physics career.
Join a group of expert medical physicists, who’ll make you feel right at home.
Come to visit and you’ll see for yourself: the faculty here dedicate themselves to their research and clinical work— but first and foremost, they’re dedicated to you.
