Population Council – Mexico

Posted by on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in Practicum Sites .

Population Council – Mexico welcomes public health students, particularly those interested in sexual and reproductive health, as interns — be it for a graduate practicum or post-graduate professional opportunity — to take part in this dynamic work environment. During the internship, candidates are exposed to the skills, experiences and relationships necessary to build a successful career in global public health. Past interns have made significant contributions to PC Mexico’s work through manuscript preparation, development of survey instruments, grant-writing and quantitative and qualitative data analysis.

Internships are offered year-round, and interns are asked to commit 40 hours/week for a minimum of three months (although arrangements are flexible). Applicants must be pursuing the internship as part of a degree program at a University, and must have the necessary medical insurance before joining. Unfortunately, the Population Council cannot provide financial support to interns; however, the office staff is happy to assist them in everything necessary such as locating temporary and adequate accommodation.

Interns work in Mexico City’s beautiful San Ángel borough, and are overseen by a direct supervisor/mentor.

If interested, please send your resume and cover letter via email at info.mexico@popcouncil.org. As the subject of your email, please write: Internship App/your name/your university.

The Population Council is one of the world’s leading research and advocacy organizations seeking to improve the health and well-being of populations around the world. Through biomedical, social science and public health research in more than 50 developing countries, we work to develop more effective policies, programs and products that improve the lives of people around the globe in three areas:

  1. HIV/AIDS
  2. Poverty, gender and youth
  3. Reproductive health

The Population Council office in Mexico City — which oversees and offer technical assistance to all of the Council’s activities and projects throughout Latin America & the Caribbean — produces cutting-edge research that is changing the way local and national governments value the health of girls and women. Past research studies in Mexico have assessed the sexual health needs of indigenous youth, conducting public opinion studies on the legalization of abortion and documenting the use of Magnesium Sulfate to manage eclampsia and pre-eclampsia in maternity clinics. Currently, the Council is working on a long-term project in the state of Yucatan. Abriendo Futuros aims at improving the health and life of indigenous adolescent girls in vulnerable communities by facilitating their access to safe spaces, role models and local social networks.
