Admitted Applicants

Assistantships are paid, part-time positions on campus that allow MPH students to build relevant experience and marketable skills while completing their degree. Students work with faculty members on public health programs or research and earn an hourly wage. The positions are open to MPH students from all tracks, and most do not require any prior experience. Assistantships could potentially lead to a practicum or culminating experience, or even a full-time job offer after graduation.

Immunization Requirements

All incoming students are required to submit immunization records and tuberculosis (TB) information. This should be completed over the spring or summer, as soon as you have activated your VU student VUnetID and before you arrive on campus.

Incoming students will receive information from Vanderbilt Student Health regarding applicable requirements and instructions for providing documentation.

An immunization hold will be placed on your student account and you will not be able to register for fall courses until the immunization documents have been received by the Student Health Center and you are considered compliant with the immunization requirements.

It may take up to 7 days for the Student Health Center to review your documents after you have submitted them. Once you are considered compliant, you will receive an email to your VU student email account and the immunization hold will be removed from your student account within 24 hours.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Vanderbilt community! Below you will find the next steps for starting the process to obtain your I-20.

First, accept our offer of admission by April 15 to secure your spot in the entering class.

This spring, you will receive an email requesting you to claim your VUnetID. The VUnetID will be the unique username that identifies you to most electronic systems at Vanderbilt.

Once you complete that process, you will receive an email from the International Students & Scholars Services (ISSS) at Vanderbilt with instructions on how to enter the International Students & Scholars Portal to start the process of applying for your I-20, the document you will need to apply for your F-1 student visa. It is in your best interest to start the process as soon as possible upon receiving the email from ISSS.

ISSS will invite you to attend a series of helpful pre-arrival sessions. You can find recordings of the most recent pre-arrival sessions here (VUnetID required).

Incoming international students are required to attend one of the mandatory in-person ISSS orientation sessions. Dates will be announced later this spring.

Vanderbilt University requires all full-time, degree-seeking students to be covered by a health insurance plan that is comparable to or exceeds the Student Health Insurance Plan, commonly referred to as SHIP.

U.S. students who have other insurance that exceeds or is comparable to the Student Health Insurance Plan may submit a request to waive the insurance. The online waiver form must be submitted by August 1. A VU student VUnetID is required. Students who wish to waive coverage are required to complete an online waiver form before the beginning of each academic year.

Vanderbilt students have free access to Nashville’s WeGo local buses, regional buses and WeGo Star with their Commodore Card (student ID badge). This service is available for any place and time, not only when commuting to and from campus.

The Office of the University Registrar is responsible for verifying the completion of external degrees for incoming graduate/professional students. All entering students in the School of Medicine must have their prior degrees verified in order to register for Fall courses.

If your application in SOPHAS includes your verified official transcripts or official WES credential evaluation for completed degrees, then you do not need to submit additional transcripts or documentation.

If your application in SOPHAS contains an official transcript or WES credential evaluation for a degree in progress, then you are required to submit an official transcript from your university (or required documentation for international degrees), showing that you have completed the degree. A final, official transcript should list the degree(s) awarded and the month and year of conferment. The required documentation should be sent directly from your college or university to the Vanderbilt University registrar’s office. Submit your final degree documentation by July 1 to ensure you can register for Fall courses.
