Fellowships

A fellowship is 1) a short-term opportunity, lasting a few months to a few years, 2) focused on the professional development of the fellow, and 3) sponsored by a specific organization seeking to expand leadership in their field.

Selection of fellowship and training opportunities in public health:

• ABMS Visiting Scholars Program – 1-year program that is intended to provide exposure to the fields of professional assessment and education, quality improvement (QI), and regulatory policy while promoting research and scholarship
• AcademyHealth Delivery System Science Fellowship – 1-year fellowship for highly-qualified, post-doctoral researchers to gain more applied experience in a delivery system setting
• AcademyHealth Real World Evidence Fellowship – 1-year fellowship at Sanofi, focused on the use of real world data and methods in private organizations
• APHA Public Health Fellowship in Government – 1-year fellowship in Washington, DC working in a congressional office and engaging in the federal policy process
• APTR-CDC Preventive Medicine and Public Health Fellowship Program – Fellows will gain leadership experience in public health practice and policy, access to state-of-the-art technology and national databases, and will train with leading experts in the field of preventive medicine and public health
• ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellowship Program – 1- to 2-year fellowship exploring various aspects of public health
• ASPPH/CDC Allan Rosenfield Global Health Fellowship Program – 1- to 2-year fellowship in global health training
• ASPPH/NHTSA Public Health Fellowship Program – 1- to 3-year fellowship in injury prevention and motor vehicle and highway safety issues with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Washington, DC
• ASPPH Public Health Philanthropy Fellowship Program – 1-year fellowship at the de Beaumont Foundation to learn about the field of public health philanthropy through active participation and deep practical application in the areas that include, but are not limited to, program development, strategic planning, grants review and monitoring, and data analysis and scientific inquiry
• Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity – 1-year non-residential global fellowship program designed to develop global leaders who understand the foundations of health inequity and have the knowledge, skills, and courage to build more equitable organizations and communities.
• Cal-EIS Fellowship Program – 1- to 2-year program for promising but green epidemiologists to gain hands-on experience working with an epidemiologist preceptor in either local or state health departments in California
• Cancer Treatment Centers of America Management Fellowship Program – 2-year leadership program designed to develop you into a future leader of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA)
• CDC Children’s Mental Health Epidemiology and Prevention Fellowship – 1-year training program on projects related to children’s mental health and early childhood development.
• CDC Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program (PHIFP) – 2-year training program in the application of computer science, information science, and technology related to public health
• CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) – 2-year program of training and service in applied epidemiology
• CDC/CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellowship – 2-year applied epidemiology training program at a state or local health agency
• CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program – 1- to 2-year fellowship in applied public health evaluation design, implementation, and analysis
• CDC Hubert Global Health Fellowship-This fellowship provides third- and fourth-year medical and veterinary students with public health experience in a developing country
• CDC Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship – 2-year training program in quantitative methods, policy analysis, and assessment of the effectiveness of prevention strategies; doctoral degree required
• CDC Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) – 2-year program provides opportunities for recent graduates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree to gain broad experience working in public health programs in state, tribal, local and territorial (STLT) public health organizations; community-based organizations; public health institutes and associations; academic institutions; and CDC quarantine stations
• CDC Public Health Prevention Service (PHPS) – 3-year program of training and service in public health program management for people with a master’s degree in public health or related field
• CDC Preventive Medicine Residency and Fellowship (PMR/F) – 2-year residency and 1-year fellowship training program in preventive medicine and public health practice with emphasis in leadership, management, policy analysis, program development, implementation, and evaluation
• CDC Public Health Associate Program – 2-year fellowship for those interested in frontline public health practice
• CDC Unintentional Injury Prevention Fellowship -1-year fellowship in Atlanta for those interested in policy around opioid overdose prevention, traumatic brain injury, motor vehicle injuries, and falls among older adults.
• Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) – 2-year post-doctoral fellowships
• Cincinnati Children’s Administrative Fellowship – 1-year program offering the opportunity for fellows to develop an understanding of the administration and operation of a pediatric not-for-profit medical center.
• Commonwealth Fund Morgan Fellowship in Minority Health Policy – this year-long fellowship offers intensive study in health policy, public health, and management for physicians committed to transforming health care delivery systems for vulnerable populations
• Doris Duke Physician Scientist Fellowship – 1-2 year program that encourages emerging physician scientists to pursue careers in clinical research and transition into faculty-level positions.
• Emerging Infectious Diseases Advanced Laboratory Training Fellowship – 1-year program that trains scientists for careers in public health laboratories and supports public health initiatives related to infectious disease research
• FDA’s Commissioner’s Fellowship Program – 2-year fellowship in a clinical review team, in biostatistics, informatics, epidemiology, risk analysis, or in other aspects of FDA science
• Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship – 4 to 9-month placement in an international setting in all public policy areas including public health, education, agriculture, justice, energy, the environment, public finance, economic development, information technology, and communications
• Fulbright-Fogarty Awards in Public Health
• Gilbert S. Omenn Fellowship – 2-year fellowship for M.D. or D.O. with an opportunity to be on a health or medicine related board of the National Academies
• Global Health World Fellowship (Unite for Sight) – 1-year fellowship with opportunity to engage in high impact front-line global health programs
• Global Pediatric Research Fellowship – 2-year fellowship administered by Boston Children’s Hospital; open to individuals who have completed a Pediatric or Medicine/Pediatric residency at a U.S. institution
• Governor’s Management Fellowship – 2-year fellowship for those who wish to serve and learn with the state of Tennessee’s top executive leaders
• Leaders for Health Equity Fellowship – 1-year fellowship designed for early to mid-career professionals who are currently engaged in health sector work including, but not limited to, academia, government, healthcare delivery, business, research, and media
• Luce Scholars Program – 1-year professional development program in Asia for U.S. citizens under the age of 30 from a variety of fields including public health and medicine
• Monitoring and Evaluation Fellowship, Lwala Community Alliance – 1-year fellowship based in rural Western Kenya
• NCHS/AcademyHealth Health Policy Fellowship – brings visiting scholars in health services research-related disciplines to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) for a period of 13 months to conduct studies of interest to policymakers and the health services research community
• Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education – ORISE administers a broad range of internships, scholarships, fellowships and research experiences
  • Health Policy Fellowship – 1-year HHS fellowship in health policy in the Washington, DC area
• Office of Evaluation Sciences (OES) Fellowship – 1-year fellowship with the General Services Administration’s Office of Evaluation Sciences (OES) in Washington, DC
• Payne International Development Fellowship – 2-year fellowship to obtain a degree in international development or another area of relevance to the work of the USAID Foreign Service at a U.S. graduate or professional school.
• PHI/CDC Global Health Fellowship Program – 1-year fellowship working at the CDC in Atlanta, GA and in CDC offices abroad on the front lines of global health
• Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) at CDC – 2-year career training program in public health leadership and management
• Tennessee Department of Health – Commissioner’s Fellowship in Health Policy– 1-year fellowship with practical high-level experiential learning at the Tennessee Department of Health
• USAID Sustaining Technical and Analytical Resources (STAR) Fellowship – 2 year Global Health fellowship either in Washington, DC or international.
• Winston Health Policy Fellowship – 1-year fellowship in Washington, DC. Open to graduate students in any discipline, field, or profession
• Wisconsin Population Health Service Fellowship – 2-year service learning program of for masters and doctorally prepared individuals in public health and allied sciences and includes field assignments in community-based governmental, non-profit and health service organizations in Wisconsin
