2024 AAMC Biomedical Research Training Conference

Members of the Vanderbilt MSTP Leadership Team attended the 2024 Biomedical Research Training Conference Hosted by the AAMC Group on Research, Education, and Training (GREAT) in Dallas, TX October 7-9. Dr. Chris Williams, MSTP Director, said “The AAMC GREAT meeting was fantastic – packed with networking and brainstorming with other programs. Our team rocked their presentations, and dinner with our alum Dr. MariaSanta Mangione (‘21), who is in the Internal Medicine PSTP at UT-Southwestern was a highlight. It’s always energizing to see how we’re all collaborating to push physician-scientist training forward. These meetings really showcase how Vanderbilt is helping lead the charge in elevating MD-PhD education across the country.”
The Vanderbilt MSTP LT presented the following:
- Lourdes Estrada, PhD, MSTP Associate Director, chairs the AAMC Workgroup on Developing Physician-Scientist Competencies and led a 75-minute workshop titled “Implementing Milestone-based Assessment to Measure Competencies Attainment and Create IDP”
- Leigh Ann Gardner, MA, CRA, MSTP Sr. Grants Manager, presented a poster titled “The Impact of a Grant Launch Program on MSTP Trainees”
- Megan Williams, PhD, MSTP Assistant Director, chairs the AAMC MD-PhD Communications Committee and led a 75-minute workshop tilted “Navigating New Norms: Holistic Admissions for a Diverse Workforce” as well as presented a poster and 5-minute talk titled “Development of an undergraduate summer research program for prospective physician-scientists”
- Chris Williams, MD, PhD, MSTP Director, chairs the AAMC MD-PhD Training Opportunities for Physician-Scientists (TOPS) Committee and led a panel discussion titled “Optimizing advice to trainees applying to residency: Conversations with PSTP Directors”
