Rebecca Drouin

MGC '28

Rebecca Drouin is from Seattle, Washington, and graduated from Gonzaga University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Secondary Education Teaching Certification. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted ecological and developmental research on invasive common reed plants and waterfowl in the Coeur d’Alene Basin. She also volunteered through the Science in Action! program, bringing science labs to elementary school students, and served as a “big sister” mentor in the Campus Kids Program.

For the past five years, Rebecca has worked as a high school science teacher in Washington State. She has taught various courses at multiple levels, with Biology being her favorite! As a teacher, she has used her platform to educate and advocate for the importance of student mental health and served as the club advisor for Morgan’s Message, an organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness among student-athletes. In addition, she has coached her school’s competitive cheerleading team and founded the Special Olympics Unified Cheerleading Team. She is excited to carry the skills, values, and lessons she learned as a teacher and coach into the medical setting as a genetic counselor.

Outside of the high school setting, Rebecca volunteered as a research assistant in the University of Washington’s Research in Early Autism Dedication and Intervention (READi) Lab. Specifically, she worked on the Reciprocal Imitation and Social Engagement (RISE) study, which examined the effectiveness of parent-mediated Reciprocal Imitation Training (RIT).

In her free time, Rebecca enjoys reading thrillers, taking barre classes, going to trivia, and exploring new coffee shops.
