Abigail Smith

MGC '28

Abigail Smith grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. As an undergraduate, she worked in clinical research at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA, conducted basic research studying pediatric glioblastomas in the Mulvaney Lab at Children’s National Hospital, DC, and worked as a Life Skills Trainer at NeuroRestorative in Blacksburg, Virginia.

During her postgraduate year, she worked as a Pediatric Genetic Counseling Assistant at Duke University Hospital, where she supported the pediatric, metabolic, Down syndrome, and aortopathy clinics. Her interest in genetic counseling stems from her twin sister Chelsea’s neurodevelopmental genetic disorder. She has been an advocate for Chelsea throughout her life and is passionate about helping individuals like her sister and families like her own. In her free time, she enjoys playing golf and spending time with her cat, Roy Kent
