Micayla Sloat

Micayla Sloat is from Maryland and graduated from the University of Georgia in December 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Genetics through the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the Morehead Honors College. During her time at UGA, Micayla served as a Franklin College Senator and DEI Committee Member in the Student Government Association, participated in philanthropy and recruitment initiatives through UGA Miracle and Phi Mu, and she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a nursing home.

After graduation, Micayla moved to Nashville to work at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a Research and Genetic Counseling Assistant in the Department of Genetic Medicine. In her role within the Genomics & Therapeutics Clinic and the Bick Lab, she supports both clinical and research efforts by coordinating patient intakes, collecting family histories, constructing pedigrees, recruiting participants for clonal hematopoiesis research studies, and assisting with translational genomics research.

Outside of work and academics, Micayla has volunteered as a crisis counselor for Crisis text line, a hospice house volunteer, and a bedside volunteer at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt though the Junior League of Nashville. In her free time, she enjoys staying active, traveling, exploring new coffee shops and restaurants, and spending time outside with her friends.
