I will be investigating the role of FGF21 in mediating the weight loss effects of GLP-1R agonists. Additionally, I will also be investigating the signal transduction pathway downstream from mTORC1 involved in mediating the weight loss effects of GLP-1R agonists. As a side project, I will investigate the role of FGF21 in mediating the decrease in alcohol intake in an AUD model through GLP-1R agonist administration. My overall goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the pathways and players involved in the effects of GLP-1R agonists.

These aims have a strong translational focus as they aim to address the heterogeneous response observed in patients with obesity that are prescribed GLP-1R agonists for weight loss. By unraveling the mechanisms at play, we can optimize the efficacy of GLP-1R agonists and develop more targeted treatment strategies. Moreover, understanding the pathways involved could lead to the discovery of novel therapeutic targets for addressing both obesity and AUD.
