Research Description

I study the regulation of Dlp (Dally-like protein) activity by Mmp2 (Matrix Metalloproteinase 2) in Drosophila ovary. Dlp is a cell-surface HSPG (Heparan Sulfate Proteoglycan) that regulates extracellular transport of ligands such as Wg (Wingless, Drosophila homolog of vertebrate Wnt1), Hh (Hedgehog), Dpp (Decapentaplegic, Drosophila homolog of vertebrate BMP2/4) and FGF (Fibroblast Growth Factor). Thus, my overall aim is to study how Dlp-Mmp2 interaction affects the spread of extracellular Wg to regulate proliferation, survival and differentiation in different cell types in Drosophila ovary.
