Pneumonia vaccine reducing pediatric admissions

Vanderbilt MPH Program director Marie Griffin, M.D., M.P.H., MPH faculty member Carlos Grijalva, M.D., M.P.H., and colleagues from Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) find that the 2010 introduction of a new pneumococcal vaccine for infants and young children in Tennessee coincides with a 27 percent decline in pneumonia hospital admissions across the state among children under age 2.
