MPH Program Honor Council Representative

Every spring, the MPH first-year students will elect an MPH Program representative for the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Honor Council for the upcoming academic year. The elected representative will serve a one-year term starting in April. The primary responsibility of this position is to act as a liaison between the Honor Council of the School of Medicine, the MPH Program administration, and the MPH students.

The purpose of the School of Medicine Honor Council is to:

  1. To receive and evaluate evidence of Honor Code violations and to assure against false accusations
  2. To determine guilt or innocence
  3. To forward to the dean of the School of Medicine appropriate penalties for the guilty

According to past MPH Program representatives to the School of Medicine Honor Council, Honor Code violations are uncommon and representatives are called upon 1-2 times throughout their 12-month term.

Election Procedures

  • Every spring, the Vanderbilt MPH Program will send rising second-year MPH students an email seeking nominations.
  • Interested students complete a brief online form (REDCap) and write a one-paragraph statement summarizing why they are suited for the position. Students may also be nominated by faculty, staff, or their fellow students.
  • The MPH Program will compile nominations and create an electronic ballot, then distribute the ballot to students by email.
  • Students will have 2-4 weeks to submit their anonymous vote electronically.
  • At least 3/4 of students in the cohort must submit a vote.
  • The MPH Program will compile results and announce the honor council representative by email and on the website.
